About Prom Dresses-spring prom dresses

Aside from a wedding dress, one of the most important gowns a girl will wear in her lifetime is a prom dress.
A hallmark event in a teenagers’ life, the prom has gone from a sweetheart’s soiree at the local high school gym to an over-the-top bacchanal often hosted at high-end hotels or in school gyms that have been transformed, using elaborate and expensive themes.
And yet, as the years go by, the crucial element of the prom remains the same: the prom dress.
From Essentials: Guide to Spring Dresses

Significance
1. A prom dress is a status symbol and a way to express individuality.
A one-of-a-kind, custom or designer dress announces that the wearer sits at the top of the social ladder.
Dresses also signal what ‘clique’ a person is in, whether it be a black, vampire-like gown for the Goth girls or a Jessica McClintock strapless number that is the choice of many girls in the popular posse.
History
2. While some researchers pinpoint the first prom as early as the late 1800s, they became an official stamp on American culture in the 1950s.
In the Eisenhower Era, prom dresses were designed to accentuate a girl’s hourglass figure. Ballerina-length skirts, usually made from tulle or lace, fanned out from nipped waists. Heart-shaped bodices brought the breasts front and center while swan-like necks were usually left bare. As for the dresses themselves, the palettes leaned towards pastels, making the dresses symbols of innocence.
A perfect example of the quintessential prom dress of the 1950s was inspired by Edith Head’s strapless gown that Elizabeth Taylor wore in “A Place in the Sun.” The boned bodice and white tulle skirt with green satin became the prom inspiration for teenage girls everywhere.
Time Frame
3. The Ladylike Look of 1960s Proms
The Ladylike Look of 1960s Proms
The prom dress of the 1960s were slimmed down a bit. No longer were skirts billowing tulle and satin creations. Dresses were often straight, making the body look slender, with fabrics that ranged from taffeta to satin. Necklines were rarely low and there was a monochromatic look that added to the natural elegance.
The prom dress of this era took a cue from Jackie O and strove toward ladylike silhouettes. Despite the revolution that was boiling under the surface of the youth culture, prom dresses continued touting the feminine.
Identification
4. The 1970s prom dress deviated slightly from the look of the 60s, with less emphasis on elegance and more on a sense of bohemian casualness. Monochromatic dresses were still popular, and skirts were still often long and billowy to complement the Farrah Fawcett hair.
To get a picture of the 1980s prom dress, one need look no further than the Molly Ringwald film oeuvre.
Scanning the prom scene in “Pretty in Pink” shows that the prom gown of the 80s was sometimes short and sometimes long, but almost always with puffed sleeves, sweetheart necklines and bright colors.
The dresses of the 80s correspond with the cultural mood, as proms took on a larger-than-life status and became the set piece of many teenage movies. In some ways, the ruffled shoulders and necklines of the grandiose dresses reflect this trend.
Types
5. A Modern Take on the Empire Waist Dress
A Modern Take on the Empire Waist Dress
Today’s prom landscape is harder to define. Some fashion soothsayers predict there will be a return to the Elizabeth Taylor hourglass look, others declare that the 1980s over-the-top fun will be reintroduced into the mainstream. Regardless of what the style oracles think, the prom dress of today is a versatile creation, with a few simple guidelines that differentiate the cuts.
“Empire Cut” Think Jane Austen. A dress with an empire cut has a high waistline that generally cinches just below the bust.
“Sheath” This is a dress for the daring and the confident. (Think of the ivory snug number that Angelina Jolie wore when she won an Emmy for “Gia.”) This dress is ideal for tall and slim figures, but might not make the best choice for girls who want to dance.
“Tea-Length” A throwback to the 1950s ballerina look, this is a knee-length or shin-length gown for girls wanting to show a little leg on the big night.
“Bouffant Gown” The name says it all. This type of prom dress has a Cinderella flair to it, with a rayon or silk skirt that reaches the floor. The bodice is a snug corset.
Theories/Speculation
6. What will the Prom Dress of 2009 look like?
“Daring Prints” Not for the wallflowers, (unless the wallflower is looking to make a splash), but one trend is prints. Nothing subtle—cheetah print dresses offset with rhinestones or wild floras paired with glittery eye make-up.
“Short Not Long” Perhaps inspired by the wardrobes found on the Gossip Girls, 2009 is gearing up to be the year of the flirty, fun and sassy dress, one that is comfortable for dancing.
“Celebrity Inspired” While channeling celebrity style is nothing new, the upcoming year promises to be particularly in tune with Hollywood red carpets. The lemon-yellow cocktail dress Reese Witherspoon wore at the 2007 Golden Globes gives the appropriate “girls just want to have fun” vibe.
On the opposite end, the waterfall-length silk satin dress Kate Hudson wears on the poster for “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” is another inspiration for those who appreciate its long, elegant Grecian look.

Observations about Bathroom Suites and Bathrooms

Observations about Bathroom Suites and Bathrooms

How important is a bathroom to a house? As a bathroom has a unique structure, and features plumbing, it demands a certaindegree of attention. In fact, the conditions of a house’s bathrooms or bathroom suites may dictate whether or not that house sells.

Plumbing in the Bathrooms

If a house’s plumbing is leaking, it has the potential to cause significant damage due to accumulation of water throughout the house. A house with unrepaired plumbing fixtures in its bathroom suites or bathrooms can also be a poor prospect for purchase.

A responsible vendor will not even consider selling a house without a functional toilet or reliable plumbing in its bathrooms. These factors alone can prevent the sale of a house.

The condition of the plumbing in the bathroom suites and bathrooms is often a major consideration of prospective buyers.

Condition of the Bathroom Suites and Bathrooms

The arrangement and conditions of <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:_gaq.push(['_trackPageview', '/outgoing/article_exit_link']);” href=”http://www.ebathroom.co.uk”>Bathroom Suites</a> and bathrooms is thus very important to a home. After all, a house without suitable plumbing arrangements can give off particularly offensive smells and can even be unliveable due to build up of raw sewage and water damage.

Hot and Cold Water for Bathing

Most of us know how annoying or even painful it can be when the water temperature suddenly changes when we’re in the shower due to someone turning on a tap or flushing the toilet.

A thermostatic shower valve can elevate this issue and make your shower a safer environment. A good thermostatic shower can be bought for under a few hundred pounds. There are also a number of thermostatic tap ranges available.

The Bathroom Suites and Bathrooms Showcase

Although living rooms and dining rooms are often considered the main visual attraction of homes, the bathrooms are one of the main factors in evaluating a home and its level of comfort. How often has someone asked to use your bathroom?

You probably ensure that your bathroom is clean and has towels to accommodate any guests who use it. Because so many will eventually see the bathroom, the appearance of a bathroom can be a major feature of the home.

Because bathroom suites and bathrooms are often a key feature of many homes, their appearance requires attention. Of course, cleanliness of the bathroom contributes to appearance, so the design of bathroom suites incorporate cleanliness, function and appearance.

Water Everywhere

Because water is an integral component of bathroom suites and bathrooms, a well-designed bathroom suite or bath features components that respond well to the humid and damp environment of bathroom suites and baths.

Well-designed bathroom suites and baths are constructed using water resistant materials that can be easily cleaned and that resist water-staining, mildew and mould. The design also incorporates safety features such as non-slip surfaces to prevent falls.

Investigate Bathroom Suites and Baths

The condition of the bathroom is an important feature to investigate before the purchase of a home. If you are inspecting or evaluating a home, you should check the condition of the bathroom suites and baths carefully. The condition of the bathroom suites and baths may actually determine whether or not you will purchase the home.

The arrangement and conditions of Bathroom Suites and Bathrooms is thus very important to a home. After all, a house without suitable plumbing arrangements can give off particularly offensive smells and can even be unliveable due to build up of raw sewage and water damage.

Ten little-known facts about mezzanine floors for business owners to consider

Ten little-known facts about mezzanine floors for business owners to consider

It might be more cost-effective to install a mezzanine floor than to acquire new premises. A Mezzanine Floor could add a new dimension to your premises by making use of redundant overhead space – giving your business the additional room it needs at a fraction of the cost of relocation. And if you can outsource not only the build but also the mezzanine floor design, you will reduce your own staff costs to the minimum.
Mezzanine floors are useful for more than storage. The additional space created by a Mezzanine Floor can also be used to accommodate offices, or to increase production space. A well-built mezzanine floor can be used for any of the following:
Retail outlets / showrooms
Viewing Galleries
Laboratories
Office Accommodation
Assembly / production
Fitness / Gyms
Canteen / Staff Rooms
Mezzanine floors can be designed to your own specification. A good design and install company will create a bespoke design to meet your precise requirements, and will  install it having taken into account such things as site conditions, Building Regulations, safety and access.
Mezzanine Floors can be Multi-tiered. Where height allows, a two-, three- or four-tier mezzanine floor will give considerable additional floor space, and is particularly effective in ensuring a good return on your investment if and when you come to move on.
Planning permission is not usually needed for mezzanine floors if they are going to be used solely for storage space. For many other uses, planning permission and other building regulations must be obtained. A good mezzanine floor design company will obtain permissions on your behalf, having first advised you on the most cost-effective use of materials which will both comply with regulations, and fit in with your requirements.
Mezzanine floors can look wonderful. Wide ranges of colours and design options are available so that staircases, gates, walls and other structural elements can be blended with the overall design of your brand and internal decor. This is particularly important if you intend to use the additional space as a showroom.
Installing a mezzanine floor can be done quickly and with a minimum of disruption. If you can provide your mezzanine floor designer with detailed plans of the space and your requirements, much of the planning can be done off-site. A good company will provide you with detailed drawings and calculations for your approval, will give you an installation date well in advance, will let you know exactly how long the installation will take, and will keep disruption to the minimum while installation is carried out.
Mezzanine floors can be customised for special environments. Provided that your mezzanine floor installer is experienced in more specialist projects, you can use him to include such things as plant support structures, lorry sheeting platforms, plant access walkways or outdoor staircases.  And if you want your mezzanine floor to be used outdoors, there are numerous structural and design features that can make this work.
Production lines and production centres can benefit from mezzanine floors - for example, a mezzanine floor can be used to provide workers with a higher access point to a particular item. In addition, the installation of a mezzanine floor can minimise the amount of wasted space, while maintaining a safe and secure working environment.
A mezzanine floor can be most effective as a storage solution when combined with bespoke racking and shelving. Look for a mezzanine floor designed/installer who can also offer you design, supply and installation of  bespoke racking and shelving. This will ensure that your vision for transforming redundant overhead space into useful storage space can be effectively costed, planned, and realised in one undertaking.

If you would like to know more about designing, installing and using mezzanine floors, please contact a mezzanine floor designer, who will be happy to answer your questions. In the meantime, we hope this article has helped you become more informed about mezzanine floors!

Window Replacement Guide – Learn About Maximum Window Efficiency

Before you can appreciate just how much a window can save you on your utility bills, you must understand the actual working of an energy efficient window.  This window replacement guide will attempt to help you in this understanding.  The theory is fairly straightforward: windows that are designed to be energy efficient are capable of slowing the heat transfer process between the inside of your house and the outdoors.  We all know that heat travels from warm to cold spaces.  In this way, the window becomes an agent of energy loss.  During the winter, the warmth inside the house tends to dissipate out through the window and during the warmer season, the hot air outside tries to rush into your house via the same window as well.

Windows are central to the heat transfer process because they don’t provide as good insulation as other parts of your wall assembly.  For example roofs, floors and walls are better insulated against heat loss.  The old single pane windows or inadequately installed double pane windows, or cracks on the window or frames are all prime candidates to facilitate this process.  To exacerbate the matter, even the best-sealed windows also allow some form of heat loss through the glass, as the glass is a natural conductor of heat through conduction.

This windows replacement guide will explain the technologies used to lower air flow and subsequently heat transfer.  These are the glazing technique, low-U values, low-E coatings, as well as gases like argon or krypton between panes.  As a result, these efficient windows will block the cold of winter away, while keeping you cool during the hot season.  Additionally, this guide will also deal with how to avoid the condensations formed inside the windows.  The performance indicator of an energy-efficient window is down to the construction of the window frame and a spacer material, and the object used to separate the main window glass and the individual frames of glass within the pane.

If you are serious in obtaining a LEED certification for your household, then it is imperative for you to know that correct windows choice can enhance your qualification. LEED accreditation is awarded based on window’s size, solar heating gain, U-factor and a host of other considerations.

Glazing

Glazing is the word used to define the glass in a window.  A double-glazed window describes two panes window; triple-glazed contains three. An “energy-glazed” window has a layer of lamination and a gas filled within the panes of glass. The reduction in solar gain goes is proportional to the numberamount[/size] of glazing.

If the solar gain is overly high, carpet, furniture and floors tend to fade easily and you need more energy for cooling to offset the solar gain; still, a decent amount of solar gain is necessary to counter the cold of winter. A double-glazed can trigger a 10 percent reduction in solar gain; triple-glazing by 20 percent. This windows replacement guide urges that households with single-glazed or single-pane windows upgrade to double- or triple-glazed windows. It will make a world of difference for your utility bills.

Low-E

Low-emissivity (low-E) coating also restricts the amount of energy transfer through the window. This coating is a transparent lamination that applies itself onto the window pane directly. It can be coated on either the inside surfaces (surfaces on opposing ends) or the exterior. Low-E coatings facilitates passing through of sun light but can cut down the heat transfer process via the window glass. In addition, businesses have also made available low-E squared and low-E cubed, which are effectively the extensions of low-E coatings and denotes two or three layers of coatings of low-E respectively.

There are two variations of low-E coatings, i.e. soft and hard types. Soft-coat low-E is comparatively not as robust and it can disintegrate under prolonged exposure to moisture and air. Conversely, while hard low-E coatings are able to withstand harsher conditions, their energy efficiencies are not comparable to those of soft coatings.
As per guideline provided by U.S. Department of Energy, low-E coated (both soft and hard variations) windows are typically priced around 10% – 15% more than conventional windows, which more than compensate the 30 to 50 percent enhancement in energy loss reduction. Low-E coated windows have come a long way from its early days of make-to-order status to become standard on windows.

U-Value

As pointed out earlier in this windows guide, R-value defines the efficiency of insulation of ceilings, walls, etc.; its reading is in direct relationship with the extent or effectiveness of the insulation. However, it is not practical to use R-value alone to measure windows insulation. They are different in the sense that they are subject to several external factors, such as wind, rain, sunlight, inside and outside air temperatures, just to name some of them. It is only natural that a different measurement system is applied on to windows.
This measurement system is called U-value, also known as U-factor. The U-value here is a more useful calculation of heat loss via the window, or heat transfer. (R-values may still be listed on windows on sales, but the values have no real significance as they are just readings on the center portion of the window, thus not an accurate measurement for the entire window.) When one is referring to U-value, the lower the reading, the higher the energy efficiency is. In cold weathers, U-value of .35 or lower is preferred.
Windows with multi-glazing and have krypton or argon filled are also effective in reducing heat loss and generally have low U-values.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient(SHGC)

The SHGC is an indicator used to measure how well solar radiation is blocked from the sun. Lower reading of SHGC means less solar heat is transmitted across. The ENERGY STAR program includes guidelines and criteria for doors and windows for three climate zones in the U.S. Manufacturers would be in a better position to tell if the product is ENERGY STAR–certified or not. For ENERGY STAR certification criteria, all products are required to be rated, certified, and labelled for both SHGC as well as U-value according to the procedures of the NFRC (or short for National Fenestration Rating Council) or able to satisfy the ENERGY STAR qualification criteria in at least one of the climate zones.
